TravelMyHeart

By Alpa Agarwal, Co-Founder and CEO
I find my courage when I solve unexpected problems;
Being away from things I take for granted, makes me grateful for them;
I make new friends who stay for a lifetime;
I stretch myself only to realize there’s more to me than I thought.
The wonder of something new is etched in my heart forever;
Different flavors, different scents, different colors, different languages,
And yet I’m reminded of how much we all have in common.
I find my belonging amidst the sea of difference,
And one more time, I become one with the human condition.

Travel and Tourism fosters economic growth and development.

The travel and tourism industry plays a key role in global prosperity. In 2016, it generated USD 7.6 trillion or 10.2 percent of global GDP and 292 million jobs, equivalent to 1 in 10 jobs in the global economy. In 2016 alone, travel and tourism created 6 million net new jobs. The sector accounted for 6.6 percent of total global exports and almost 30 percent of total global service exports. Tourism has grown faster than world trade for the past five years.

As a worldwide export category, tourism ranks third after chemicals and fuels and ahead of automotive products and food. In many developing countries, tourism is the top export category.

The industry is forecasted to grow to USD 11.5 trillion or 11.4 percent of global GDP in 2027. Jobs are expected to grow to 381,700,000 and visitor exports will account for 7.2 percent of total global exports in 2027.

Destinations are looking for ways to attract travelers.

International tourist arrivals have increased from 25 million globally in 1950 to 278 million in 1980, 674 million in 2000, and 1,235 million in 2016. Likewise, international tourism receipts earned by destinations worldwide have surged from US$ 2 billion in 1950 to US$ 104 billion in 1980, US$ 495 billion in 2000, and US$ 1,220 billion in 2016. International tourist arrivals worldwide are expected to increase by 3.3% a year between 2010 and 2030 to reach 1.8 billion by 2030. (UNWTO Tourism Highlights 2017)

An ever-increasing number of destinations worldwide have opened up to, and invested in tourism, turning it into a key driver of socio-economic progress through the creation of jobs and enterprises, export revenues, and infrastructure development.

Destinations play a key role in fostering the economic growth and development of their local communities. They do this through their marketing activities to attract travelers and traveler dollars, which sustain an ecosystem of businesses such as attractions, tours, activities, restaurants, hotels, shopping, and more.
